Deb Hanes-Nelson
Deb is a retired pastor with a love of watercolor and experiences it as a spiritual discipline. She has no formal training in art, but her passion has driven her to associate with artists in Northeast Kansas and throughout the Great Plains including the Columbian Artists. She has been painting for a decade and has attended workshops with some of the finest watercolorists in the United States. Many of them through the Manhattan Watercolor Studio at the Manhattan Arts Center.
She has studied with Pomona Hallenbeck, Paul Jackson, Larry Lombardo, and many other nationally known artists. She had her paintings "Sons of Jubal - Genesis 4:21"and "The Discerning Look - Proverbs 17:24" accepted in the 2013 and 2015 Kansas Watercolor Society's National Exhibition in Wichita. She credits her association with the Columbian Artists and the Manhattan Watercolor Studio for their encouragement and helpful critique in her rapid growth as an artist.
She also teaches classes on Mondays in watercolor at her studio located in Centralia, Kansas.
Her work is also exhibited and available for purchase at: 315 Annex Studio & Gallery, 315 John Riggins Ave. (Hwy 9), Centralia KS ; Gallery 101 of the Flint Hills 106 Main St. Marion KS; Topeka Art Guild, Fairlawn Mall, 21st & Fairlawn, Topeka; Prairie Past Times, downtown, Cottonwood Falls; and various shows through the area.
