Ginny Young
A love for color, beauty, and expressiveness motivates artist Ginny Young. Born and raised in Manhattan, Kansas, Ginny gained her love and talent for art from her artistic dad, a printer by trade. As a child, she watched as he drew pen and inks at his homemade drawing table.
Ginny received BS & MS degrees in Recreation and Fitness at Kansas State University. After college and becoming a farmer's wife, she began taking local painting classes. While raising three daughters, she dabbled in art, taking classes and workshops when possible. To bring art opportunities to her rural area, Ginny organized painting workshops taught by professional artists. A life-change took her to Colorado where she graduated from The Art Institute of Colorado in Denver with a degree in Kitchen and Bath Design. She moved back to Kansas to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren. She is currently a Kitchen & Bath Designer for Mead Lumber, living in Manhattan, Kansas.
Throughout the various seasons and challenges of life, art has continually been a refreshing retreat and source of joy for Ginny. "I can't imagine life without it," she says. "I have to be creative in some capacity or another."
Her award winning art can be seen in such locations as Good Samaritan Exempla Hospital in Lafayette Colorado, YMCA conference center in Estes Park, Pepsi Corporation in New York, Governor Sam Brownback, Gettysburg Pennsylvania Presbyterian Church, and the Fort Collins "Rearin' to Go" public art project.
Loving variety, Young's subject matter includes still life, floral, figure, landscapes and abstract. Mediums she uses include oil, watercolor, acrylic, collage, mixed media. Her use of repetition in lighting, color, texture, and mood create vibrant patterns.
Ginny highlights the beauty of everyday life. She takes the common, sometimes "unnoticed" things and makes them beautiful. Viewers often comment how joyful her work is.
Creativity is Ginny's lifestyle and passion. She is inspired by both the common and the grand, believing that all beauty and creativity comes from God, the original and ultimate Creator. To see more of her work or to contact her, please visit Facebook ginnyyoungartist (select albums)
