Linda Ross Asbury
I am 67, a mother of two great kids and grandmother to 2 wonderful grandsons and 2 granddaughters on the way! I am a cancer survivor, 5 years out this year. I grew up in the lower Allegheny Plateau area of southern Ohio. We grew up poor, which means we grew most of our food, hunted for meat and did without. It was a tough life.
I moved to Kansas in the late 70's and ended up staying. This is where I have made my home and have been in Westmoreland since 1985. I had begun my artistry by building birdhouses and then painting scenes on them. That led me into painting on saw blades and commissioned pieces.
The Kansas State Student Union gave me my first show. It was only a couple weeks, but what an encouragement that brought to my heart. At this point, someone suggested I join the Columbian Artist Group, in Wamego at the Columbian Theatre. They were instrumental in encouraging me to do canvases. I continually have new pieces of art in the Swogger Gallery. Come and enjoy our work. I've had an exhibits at The Flower Nook, in Salina, NexLynx Gallery in Topeka, Ks., Two Wolves Studio in Topeka, Ks., and again at the William T. Kemper Gallery in January, 2017. Branching out, I have also joined the Westmoreland Art Guild Where we try to promote art for our area students and artists of all kinds of genres.
I am so grateful to each and every person that has helped me take another step forward, especially my Heavenly Father, because without His gifts, none of this would be possible. I hope you enjoy my style of folk-art enough to buy and share your experience.
God Bless,
Linda Ross Asbury
