Rodney L Hoover
ARTIST STATEMENT As a rural visual composer, I create outright "Cowrageous" bovine composites giving cattle personality through human body language. ARTIST BIO Rodney has been an artist for as long as he can remember; his inspiration comes from childhood memories of his grandparents' farm in the High Plains of Kansas. In 1975 his family moved from Colorado to the Flint Hills region of Kansas, where Rodney met and married his wife and raised their three children. Rodney's work shifted from crayon and graphite to oil and watercolor in the early 1980s, and he became a certified Commercial and Production Artist and freelance illustrator in the 90s. He transitioned to digital in 2010 after receiving his first camera. It was a natural evolution, experimenting with rural & cattle photography and then quickly moving to composite photography. Rodney has immersed himself in creating the Bovinians since 2017 and can't imagine doing anything else. His compositions begin with persona, costume and set creation, organization of models and cattle for photo sessions, then hours in the studio creating the final visuals. He not only exhibits in multiple galleries and venues across Kansas, but he's also a member of the Columbian Artist Guild and sits on the board of directors for the Columbian Theatre and Oz Museum Foundation, and has served the community by sitting on his local city council. His deep-seated desire to share humor and create "cowrageous" conversation by giving cattle personality through human body language udderly can stop one in their tracks.
