Rodney L Hoover
My inspiration comes from my childhood memories, leaving the big city to enjoy summers spent on my grandparent’s farm. I like to immerse myself in the subject matter of my work (rural living) and let it speak and show me its secret details and history that at first glance aren't noticed. It’s not straight photography, which in itself is an art, but digital fine art composites.
My composites begin with photo sessions on location, hours in the studio creating the composition using multiples of my original photos, digital manipulation of the images, enhancements of color, texture, hues, saturation, brush strokes, blending modes and more. Although I use a variety of processes in each project my methodology and final outcome is consistent, ultimately creating a work of art that draws on the very substance of what I believe rural living to be.
I grew up in the Manhattan Kansas area and have lived in St. George for the past 31 years where I met and married my wife Dixie and raised our three children. After Graduating High School I attended the Salina Area Technical College and graduated with my Commercial and Production Art degrees.
I started working as a graphic artist for Ag press in Manhattan, KS and was art director for Llama Banner and Sighthound Review magazines, ad designer for Alpacas Magazine along with many projects for the Kansas State University athletics department. While employed with Ag Press I also worked as a freelance illustrator and was published in multiple novels with cover and inside art illustrations. In Sept. of 2006 I took a job as Art Director for Able Publishing and started my own freelance business as a farm and ranch business imaging specialist, working to create ranch business logos, advertising, and tradeshow images for the alpaca and camelid industry. In 2008 I changed jobs and have now been employed with Purple Wave Auction as their Creative and Design Manager for more than 6 years.
I am a member of the Columbian Artist Guild and I'm working on my passion, ranch and rural living art. I have multiple pieces showing at the Swogger Gallery and have also shown works in the Carnegie Center for fine Art/ Dodge City, KS; CL Hoover Opera House Gallery/ Junction City, KS; Family Home Treasures/ Home City, KS; Flint Hills Art Gallery/ Topeka, KS; Leaping Lamas Artisan Shop/ Topeka, KS; Lee Dam Center for Fine Art/ Marysville, KS; Manhattan Arts Center/ Manhattan, KS; Manhattan Creative Market Gallery/ Manhattan, KS; Manhattan Radiology Oncology Gallery/ Manhattan, KS; NexLynx Gallery of Art/ Topeka, KS; Prairie Ghost Gallery/ Paxico, KS; Prairie Museum of Art & History/ Colby, KS; Strecker-Nelson Gallery/ Manhattan, KS; Swogger Gallery/ Wamego, KS; William T.
